    Thumbs down D2 Fuel leak

Hi all, just got home from late shift. Its about ten minutes home on the highway doing 100km/h. Was planning on washing the salt off the Disco and trailer in the morning from camping on the weekend, which is why the trailer is still hitched. Anyway i hopped out when i got home and smelt a fuel smell..... looked around the back and there is fuel all over the trailer and hitch, up the back window of the Disco and the bottom of the fuel tank is wet and dripping with fuel. Absolutely spewin.... There was no noises or anything i caught it on. Not sure at this stage if its the tank or a pipe. Will check it out in the morning.

This is starting to be become an awful habit of fixing something and then another thing going wrong. I can hear my LR kicking mates already....always broken, unreliable etc etc....

Had a bit of a search of the forum for fuel leaks. I will have to check my vin against the recalls....

Is there any common problems that i can start my search on the Disco in the morning. Obviously i can't drive anywhere at the moment so any help will be appreciated.

    Its a 2003 S Discovery TD5

    This story sounds familiar

    Very familiar

It's caused from the fuel lines chafing

Take it back to the dealer to get it fixed before you get a very big fine from the EPA

May not be fuel lines could be easier than that.

My TD5 was leaking around the fuel pump which is in the tank.

A new seal and nut which secures the pump in the taank and away you go. Around $40 for both.

Maybe the nut has just come undone. This allows the pump to float up and down and fuel to come out.

Lift up the carpet in the back take out 4 screws on cover plate ad you will see it.

    Regards
    Piddler

    I had similar issue/symptoms.

It was the fuel block on side of engine leaking

Have a look at rear drivers side of engine. See if the starter motor etc has got diesel on it

If thats what it is, its easy to replace your self

If its the fuel lines like it sounds then there is a Land Rover Recall on this so it should be a dealer fix for free.

    fuel leak

Definately leaking down the back. It seems to be coming from on top of the fuel tank.

I spoke to LR today and they said to get in contact with a dealer. I rang the dealer and they said the recall is for chafing near the engine ?? Another repairer said the recall was for the pipes on top of the fuel tank.....which is it ?? My recall has been done for the chafing. So i am on my own by the sounds of it. I have conflicting reports from dealers and repairers as to where the recall is repaired at.

They all seem to want me to bring it in ASAP. Which worries me a little. I ended up speaking to a helpful mechanic just around the corner at Blue Ribbon motors in Ipswich, Blue Ribbon used to be a LR dealer. He was the one who suggested that i have a look at it myself first by accessing the top of the fuel tank via the cargo area. He said that as my Disco is out of warranty and the recall had been done i was probably out of luck trying to get LR fix it. The other problem is that the closest LR service place is about 45 mins away. Not good if its leaking fuel like a tap.

The recall is for chaffing above the tank! See http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recal..._ID_Auto=13134

My chafing was above the tank and the recall has been done twice, if you want something bad enough it's worth picking a fight for.
