Turbo Timer was wet...
Was criusing home from the beach and on a offroad track the girlfriend manages to throw half a lites of water onto the dash of my Td5 Defender. A bit went on the turbo timer, but most went down the aircon.
Anway get home and switch car off, leave keys in ignition and let the turbo timer run out. Half an hour later I hear the fule pump streetch, then stop, streech then stop. I found ever few seconds the ignition would turn on, all dash lights come on, fuel pump engage and then nothing, seconds later again and this keeps going.
I tried everything, running engine which was no prob, mucking around with keys etc. Still would start about 5 minutes after switching engine off. Turbo timer was working as normal. So worried about the fuel pump I disconected the battery (what a drama with these aftermarket seats, had to unbolt them first).
This morning I reconnect batt and away, problem is solved. Have no idea what it was, is this a security/alarm thing, likely to be caused by the turbo timer or worth gettting the ecu checked?
Whatever it was it was overiding the ignition switch and I am puzzled?

yep i agree water in the turbo timer causing an intermittent short.
Sounds like the Turbo Timer. I found when my aux. battery is switched on (via solenoid) it provides power to ign. and the turbo timer doesn't cut out. The ignition circuit is pretty straight forward, the only complicating thing is the turbo timer, so any ignition problems, suspect the turbo timer first (apart from the obvious - flat batteries, fires etc).
Teach her a lesson throw 10lts of water over her..bet she gets short (tempered) too![]()
