    Alternator crossover ???

    Has any one sourced a none genuine alt for a TDi 300 out bush and run home on it.
    Must be a doppeldanger unit on another motor out there somwhare.

    I did some research on this topic when I had to replace my alternator last year. Whilst the ribbed pulley is fairly common these days, it's the fact that the alternator hangs on the left side that tends to limit replacement options. You can't even use a LR V8 alternator because the top mount is too narrow.

    The only other alternator I've seen that remotely resembles the tdi is from a similar age volvo v6, but I didn't take it any further - I bought a replacement alternator and rebuilt my old one for a spare.
