In which toy Dawg?
The Defender?
Would running 4:1 diffs and a rock crawler T/C compensate for loss of low gearing by using 34"'s and above?? should do but what have you guys done to get back your snail pace low???

For my Disco I have fitted 4.1's into the diffs. Mates have fitted lower low range gears in their Defenders.

Hi Nigel
Series centres will give you 4.7.1,plenty available.Pretty sure my bro has a complete 4.7 sailsbury he got for that series landy,he now has 3.54 rover diffs in it so some sort of a deal probably could get struck.
PM if you want his number.

I can vouch for the rock crawlers. I have Maxi rock crawlers in our LT230, worth their weight in gold. As for the diff centres, I run an Isuzu TDI on 33" and previously on 35" so torque required to drive on standard ratio centres has not been a problem. On saying that though, if they ever s...t themselves I will be changing to Maxi 4.11 CR&P.
Regards Justin
I run 34" tyres on my County with the 3.54 diffs and rockcrawler gears and its a good combination.
I only know them as rockcrawler gears as I rang Maxidrive (Mal Story) a few years ago to get a price on them and when I told him I had an '85 County, he said "you already have them" .
How embarrassing![]()

still have 3.23:1 low range regardless
Yeah, I couldn't work that out either.

Know the feeling, my Rangie now hates hills now with the 33' on. Autos are shocking with tall tyres on I have discovered and descending hills can be interesting at times![]()

4.11's are on the 'shopping list' and hopefully be fitted next year to fix this small problem. Til then, will keep carrying an anchor to throw out the window to slow me up on descents![]()

I run maxi 4.11's on my manual D2 with 32" tyres which makes a huge difference in low range. Crawls pretty well (slightly lower than standard D2 gearing) but as I start to tackle harder and more technical stuff I would love some lower gearing still in low range.
