We use genuine LR PAS where required, at $12 per litre retail. Methinks someone is having a lend if they are charging $18 per litre...:o . As others have noted, I would only use what is recommended, rather than take the chance on a cheaper (inferior?) oil.
I've been thinking along the same lines in respect of brake fluid for my P38A. The P38A (and the later RR classics) use an ultra-expensive (many thousands of dollars) brake "booster" - the WABCO unit. I wouldn't want the seals in that to go for want of the right fluid.Quote:

I'm successfully using the Castrol Transmax Z synthetic transmission fluid in both the power steering and the auto box. It's a synthetic Dexron type fluid. I originally used it in the PS because my local LR dealer told me it's what they use rather than the expensive LR fluid.

I need some for my L322 steering. Hunting around, Penrite have a 14315 equivalent PAS FLUID - (Power Assisted Steering Fluid) but it's $28/litre at SuperCheap.Quote:
