Don't suppose you'd like to enlighten us, Sumo?

I for one was looking forward to 3 rows of forward-facing seats, A/C that worked and a 6 speed box. What gremlins are lurking?

I'm still hoping that it is a program of controlled mis-information and they are going to reveal that the 2007 Defender will actually get the TDV6! Alternatively, I'm hoping that Ford are about to release some magical, updated Transit TD4 engine that produces 190kW and 500Nm...

Is there anything substantial here? When the news of the Ford motor first broke, there seemed to be two camps - "I had a mate who had one and it was the duck's guts," and "I had a mate who had one and it was sh1thouse."

Since that seems fairly similar to the comments on the TD5 (raise flame shield) I wonder what the reality is?

Let's not forget the acclaimed TDV6 is a Ford unit, albeit built for the "prestige" not the commercial wing.

Ok... one thing I don't understand so maybe someone can "enlighten" me....

    Current TD5 - 5 cyl.... 90kw
Proposed (new) ford transit - 4 cyl.... 90kw

    What's the difference?
    5cyl vs 4cyl?
    Ford built Vs LR built???

Scott, same power output but more torque

    90kw @ 300Nm TD5
    90kw @ 330Nm Transit TD4 with a 6 speed man box.

    Defender

Alegedly 6 speed manual has been put on the back burner for now. New Defender and Range Rover TDV8 are due for release in UK now , but hav'nt seen anything in the english mags.

In fact, on paper there is little to choose between the two engines. But of course the numbers do not tell the whole story, and undoubtedly the answer as to whether the Transit engine is an improvement or the same or worse will not be known until some ordinary users have experience of it. One of the key figures I have not seen anywhere is the relative weight of the Transit engine compared to, for example, the TD5 - don't forget that the maximum weight will probably be unchanged, so changes in engine weight come off or go on to the available payload.
But undoubtedly some people have been hoping for a much larger (more powerful) engine such as the TDV6, at least as an option, rahter than retaining the status quo.
