Thanks again for the feedback, reading some of the comments makes me realise I really don't know a hell of a lot of whats under the bonnet, like for example whats a dizzy?? As DirtyDawg mentioned everything is under some plastic cover, maybe Ill just get a wet rag and give the plastic and other bits that dont look electrical a wipe down to at least make it look reasonably clean, that should be pretty safe shouldnt it? A Dissy or Dizzy is a distributor - fortunately you don't have one (as such) on a D3 Disco.
I feel there is a little paranoia slipping in with what to wash, with what and when - but if , as you say, have no idea at all then either leave it to somebody who does know or use the approach you have mentioned - a wet rag.
On mine - I use a rag dampened with armoral to make all the plastic under the bonnet shine, and I have the impression that you won't have that much mud under your bonnet.

Thats the problem, there is a fair bit of mud under there, at Fraser a month or so ago there was a lovely deep bog hole that I went through first, it ended up being deeper than we thought and that has only contributed to the other mud runs Ive done. That said I think I may give it a wipe down and get someone who knows what they are doing to do the rest through the balance of the engine bay.Quote:

Stevo, get someone else to do it (a professional), it's worth the money.
If they screw up it's their problem.
It's something of a black art, this job, as others have decribed their experiences. Did this to a 94 Falcon once, and it took another day to get it going - and I was being careful....

I took the D2 to the local high pressure car wash and pressure cleaned my engine bay with there engine cleaner then high pressure soap and a final high pressure rinse and had no problems. Engine bay looks like new.
Then gave it a spray with Inox (Lanolin).

Yes it is sad but it could be sadder at least you aren't selling it because you hated it or it let you down but it is going for a good cause - your new venture. The past is back there and the future is straight ahead and there are worse fates than an older Landy.
