Cracking outer cover causeing misfire at about 40,000km
thats a heat problem.....the heat seems to be burning them.....
try a different brand........might last longer.....
and make sure they arent touching the exhaust manifold......
Dunno if they'd fit, but later model commodores (VT or somewhere there) plug leads have heat shields on the plug end. Very nifty and fabulous if you're suffering the heat dramas near exhaust manifolds. I've actually got several at work that I've pinched off old lead sets. I think they're genuine only...or maybe delco; and ya only get them if you buy a lead set...Will have to call my supplier and see for sure!
a 253/308 plug set will fit nicely and are available as Relay said you can get em with heat shields.

I haven't heard of this one. I still have the originals on at 100k & are fine. Is it only a silicone thing?
magnicore leads are the best leads i have ever used on a rover v8
cured just about every foible i had with mine, apart from the module which went at 168k.

Thanks for the input guy's 253/308 leads with shields sounds the way to go I now seem to remember a Volvo I had years ago had shields for that reason but had forgotten bad memories in a distant past life.
are the leads breaking when you go to remove them from the plugs.....
or are they just throwing sparks everywhere......?
make sure to only remove plug leads from the rubber boots on the ends.....
never pull on the leads........
