    County 110 -Rangie transfer(High) gears

Has anybody put the transfer box high ratio gears from a Rangie/early Disco into thier Landie?
I believe it would give around 12% higher ratio in high range, but I wanted some feedback before doing this.
    Thanks,

Isn't there 3 different transfer cases in that group of 4WD's that you're talking about?

Not to mention the County has two different ratios depending on the engine.

    Yup,
There are a few variations, but mine does approx 2600 rpm @ 100 kph so I am assuming it is the LT95 4 speed as supplied as standard to an '85 V8 County.
Good for towing but I am selling the Caravan and don't see much towing in the future.
It is now a 4.2l so there is plenty of oomph.
I can take the gears to a wrecker and get higher ones, but wanted some feedback first
    Thanks,
    David

Buy bigger tyres you need a short shift LT95 from a high comp. 3.5 RR (early four door) or a diesel county, info courtesy of JustinC who just bought a 0.996:1 high ranged LT95 of me, By the way Justin the money transfer went through A ok.

If you can tell me of anyone who markets highway tyres with a dia larger than 811mm I will get them. I have 2 sets of off road and one all terrain, it goes OK with 35" swampers, so maybe I just answered my own question regarding higher gearing
I would put larger tyres on only if they were highway ones.
    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure the rangies came with other transfers than those. Didn't they run a BorgWarner or a Viscous something or other.

Yes, but from about 89 or thereabouts onwards. I am talking 2/4 door early rangies with 4 speed manuals. Perhaps disco's too, but not 2 sure.

Replied to the other topic then saw this one. From my limited experience I would say that with 2600 rpm @ 100km/hr you already have the high ratio gears in your transfer case. I did this gear swap recently (to the higher ratio 0.996 set) and according to my calculations my county is now doing similar revs to yours at 100km/hr. You can check which gears you have by marking the handbrake drum and backing with a pen then with a wheel jacked off the ground and the car in 4th gear turn the engine over exactly 1 revolution with a spanner/socket then look at mark on handbrake drum to see how far its gone. With the 0.996:1 gears should go nearly 1 revolution (or 359 degrees to be exact) as 4th is 1:1. They gears are easy enough to swap if you need to any of the later rangie boxes with the 12c prefix (I think) have the 0.996 ratios in them. Have the teeth count somewhere if you need them.
