    Drivers door - classic RR

I'm used to ill fitting doors in my Defender but on the last day or so I;ve noticved increased wind noise around drivers window (yes, when it's closed !) I checked the door but it's shut firmly - just seems the window frame isn't fitting as snugly into its alloted place as it might and there is a gap between the top of the window frame and the vehicle.

Am I making any sense ?

I'm thinking that perhaps the door has sagged on its hinge a bot with some rough tackes we were driving the last few days. How do I check / adjust this ?

    Any other thoughts ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

There was a post on this a few weeks back - and it covered the brass/bronze ferrules that the hinges sit in.

Apparently they wear and lead to door sag.

I know somebody purchased a load of them and was offering them to members at a few dollar each.

Have a search of the posts/threads you should come apon it.

Just found it myself - but it's for D1 doors - not sure if the classic is the same

Rangie doors like disco's are a seperate window frame and inner and outer shell, you may find that you need to remove the door trim ,loosen the frame securing bolts ( on both outside edges of the door and also internal) and tilt the frame back toward the door frame of the car, then re tighten the bolts.
Worn hinges doesnt help but for about $50 each i would also replace the 2 driver side ones or find a good pair off the passenger side of another rangie as these rarely wear that badly.

Are the pax side hinges the same as the drivers side ? Surely they'd be opposite - or are they the same items just installed in reverse ?

Tricks to removing / refitting the door trim ?

Door trim removal - I posted a few on this - and I will see if I can trace the post - but I 'knicked' a plastic forked thingy from the wifes kitched she uses it for pancakes - god knows how, or why - but that's women for you.

It works perfectly - is thin enough to slip in behind the trim and support either side of the clip you are trying to release.

I'll see if I can find the post.

adjust the frame first before you worry about the hinges......
there should be a few black 10mm bolts on the end of the door.....
see if they have come loose......they hold the black frame that the window lives in......

you may simply need to reposition this frame...as loanrangie said......

if you do this and find the glass doesnt want to go up and down too freely any more.....
there is also an adjustment on the window guide chanel inside the door.......

ps....to check for freeplay in the hinges.....open the door about 6 inches and grab the end of it
and lift it up and down....if you have any movement in the hinges you will be able to find it easily......
