Hi All

I have always wondered about how the fan works in my Defender. It has always been a bit strange but since being rebuilt after the prang it has become stranger though not without its own twisted logic.

Now when I have the heater controls on full heat and the air directed to the screen via LHS levers turned on to say demist the screen nothing much happens if the fan (RHS lever) is off. Normal-ish air (perhaps just warmed by ambient engine heat working on ducts) seeps out.

When I move the fan slide down a bit - it appears that the air flow coming out is increased a bit and it now seems to have been actually heated. But the fan has not actually started and it does not start until the lever is well down. Then it starts very weakly and perhaps there is a second speed still weak and then full speed which you can hear clearly and airflow is pretty solid.

The weird thing is that it seems regardless of whether or not you operate the actual fan - just using the temp levers and the flow guide levers does not seem to do much until you also operate the fan lever - even if the fan does not actually kick in.

Is this how it should be?
