P38A Owners - check your tailgate cables

Yesterday, my son sat down on the tailgate of my P38A and the left hand tailgate cable snapped.

Upon inspection, it was found that both ends of the cable, the bolt-on mounts, had rusted quite badly. You can't see them because the cable has a loose rubber sleeve and there are rubber covers over the ends as well.

Peel the covers back and check yours.

Gee Ron, I thought yours would have had the new type cables by now.
LR bought out stainless cables just after the P38a RR came out for that very reason.
Are you sorted out for new ones ?

Yes, I thought that I'd seen a recall on these but I'm not sure.

I picked up and fitted a new stainless one today. KLR Automotive had them in stock.

The RH is Ok but I don't know if it's stainless. I'll check tomorrow (I'm at work at the moment).

The new one doesn't swivel as easily and has to be manually pushed out of the way to close the tailgate.
