Or kill the person driving behind you when it bounces up off the road... it's pretty heavy. It's good quality wire too, I can vouch for that.

So can anyone tell me the long term effects (if any) of driving without one of these?

As I said, you won't even notice the difference.
It's just there to try to stop any front axle vibration/resonance coming through to the cabin - they're fitted for comfort reasons only.

If you're interested, harmonics (resonance) is absolutely fascinating!

It causes death wobbles on some motorbikes.

    It can wreck a helicopter.

There's an old film somewhere of a (big) suspension bridge that 'fell apart', due to resonance. (High winds blowing through a canyon resonated perfectly with the bridge and 'bingo!' no more bridge...) You have to see it to believe it.

When the ground (as in solid material) is said to liquify during an earthquake this is caused by resonance.

And resonance is the reason why a singer can pitch the right note at a glass and cause it to explode or shatter.

As for the harmonic balancer, with out it, when you synchronise the right frequency(s) the crank shaft will turn into jelly.

    Harmonics are sooo much fun!!!

its just a good place to store a spare engine mount......its out of the way......

and the bungy cord is there incase the engine mount breaks.....
this then allows the mass lump (wrecking ball) to bounce beween the road and the gearbox....
so it can pound the crap out of it........

So the long term effect would be industrial deafness?

If you want, you can have my damper, I've got a HD snake racing track rod and the damper gets in the way. You may or may not have got my PM - I was thinking of trading 2 cheap CAV filter cartridges for it - but I'll listen to anything.

No PM recieved. Maybe I have you on my 'ignore' list?

Reading between the lines I take it your quite happy to be running without it? Your drive shaft hasn't turned to jello and you can still hear people speaking to you?

Yep - also don't have a steering damper either - but I had a 83 RR before the Disco, so I probably can't tell the difference
