My first car was a morris 1300 4 speed auto (quite advanced for 1970) (the auto that is) and it could be pushed started - well tow started anyway.Quote:

am I mistaken?
Why is it then, that when I move the selector from Park to Drive or Reverse for that matter I get the dreaded clunk and feel as though I've been kicked up the backside if theres no direct connection from flywheel to turbine until certain revs are reached? Am I on the right wavelength here???
OK so can you tell me what are the plusses and minuses of my auto that seams to have 2500-300rpm stall converter? I have discovered the heaps of power and suck you into the seat launch.
Guessing it means I can't reverse down steep hils with engine braking?
I have rock crawlers in the transfer and find I can drive down in first at about 10kmh with the engine doing around 3000rpm.
What is your idle rpm ?Quote:

Not sure exactly on your model - but I would have thought - at normal running temperature you should be at about 700 - 750 rpm.Quote:

Thinking about it, it could be even lower.
Good way to check - get it as low as you can before it starts to complain/cough/stutter.
For the later Classic RR it's 525 +/- 25
