- What gearbox are u suing in combo with your 186?
- What diff ratios are u using?
- Have u modified your transfer box?
- What rear axle do u have?
- What size wheel are u using?
What spec is your radiator (core and material makeup)

dont have the veh any more currently im in a 84 rangie with 4.4 p76 eng with lt95 4spd 3:54 diffs n 33'S and has the .996:1 high range so 4th is a micky hair o/d will sit on 130 on the hwy no probs but has a bad drinkin habbit but will get good econ if i stay under 100 k dads old s3 was ok at round 100k but go any quicker and it drank like me at a keg show ...Quote:

All the ones I have seen or participated in, were Series III and used the standard trans. Even one that was regularly used to tow an 18' boat on the beach never had trouble. Remember, you rarely have to use the full grunt of the engine. The Hemi 6 has a hell of broad power band and will lug you out of most situations without excessive revs, clutch dropping etc. Most transmission failures are caused by letting the clutch out before the next gear is fully engaged. Holden M20's are an example. Well driven, they don't fail, but a forceful or ham-fisted driver will bust them.Quote:

I tried to this but no way was it ever going to work, ended up running a 1 tonner - so far so good. -S3 109 with f100 gearbox(np435). The pedal pressure is much higher than the landy clutch, although this could be due to the larger ford throwout bearing used in the conversion. ?
My thoughts on engine conversions -
Choose a decent gearbox first, then get a donk to suit the box. Whatever you put in front of a standard series box is going to tax it. The box is the problem. Sort this out - and the motor choice will be easy. Most semi decent motors will be up to the job of pushing a series around.
I'd go a ford v8 or I6 - so many good gear boxes around for these. C4 conversions are around too.
(I'm actually running a 186 soon to be upgraded to a efi 202, it would've been cheaper for me to drop in a ford donk though)

Is the box u have the holden 1 ton Looka was referring to?
Lokka, I have the Siia gearbox linked to the holden 180 - with adaptor plate..
But, I am still open to suggestions as I have all parts of floor of garage awating assy.

Land-lord - why not fit a 5-speed of some description and an LT230. It is a bit more effort and more modifications, but in the end you will have a much stronger driveline with a great range of ratios.
run with you've got man wont cost as much and you will learn a lot doin it yourself the 186 will work fine as long as the motor is healthy and should last a fair while will talk to dad this week and find out wat he useto do with em and will find out wat parts he usedQuote:
