    Will the LT230 fit?

I tried to this but no way was it ever going to work, ended up running a 1 tonner - so far so good. -S3 109 with f100 gearbox(np435). The pedal pressure is much higher than the landy clutch, although this could be due to the larger ford throwout bearing used in the conversion. ?

My thoughts on engine conversions -

Choose a decent gearbox first, then get a donk to suit the box. Whatever you put in front of a standard series box is going to tax it. The box is the problem. Sort this out - and the motor choice will be easy. Most semi decent motors will be up to the job of pushing a series around.

I'd go a ford v8 or I6 - so many good gear boxes around for these. C4 conversions are around too.
(I'm actually running a 186 soon to be upgraded to a efi 202, it would've been cheaper for me to drop in a ford donk though)
as for the landy holden clutch set up i will ask my dad what he used his set up 4 the 6 was one of the best around this area anyway the 253 v8 was a one off (NO SUBSTATUTE FOR CUIBIC INCHES) dads a horsepower lover like me only prob is he defected and now has a toiletfloata 80 series

    cheers

    IzuzuROver -

What mods are required to make the LT230 fit my series i with siia running gear?

Can i use the LR siia rear axle still?

Will any underfloor/chassis mods be needed?

What year Lt-230 transfer case is ideal? I read that prior to 1994, wear was a big factor..?

If you must go the holden route (yours is already modified yeah) then the IIa box is the way to go, IMHO its a slightly tougher box although its not syncro on first and second gears but then the holden donk should be able to pull you off in second gear giving you acces to a syncro 3rd gear change instead of having to do a non sync 1st to second. I would be looking at putting a sailsbury rear end in as the normal rover diffs are a little light on for axle strenght and too much loud pedal with the 186 will tax them especially if your towing or heavily loaded.

The propshafts will need to be lengthened/shortened and you will need a custom srossmember and handbrake linkage, but apart from that everything would bolt up fine.

If you would not feel comfortable doing the mods yourself then it could get expensive. The LT230 is a LOT stronger than tha series T-case, and just about any gearbox is stronger than the series box.

I always thought the series case was bullet proof ? never heard of one breaking. Imo - keep the series case, for no other reason than they don't have a stupid un-needed diff inside them.

Hey Land Lord - getting confused? everyone will have a different opinion on whats a good thing.

Series T-cases are the strongest part of a series drivetrain (with the possible exception of a salisbury), but they can and have been broken. The LT230 (although it has a diff in it) is much stronger, has a great low range (3.32:1) and a wide range of high range ratios off-the-shelf.
