    Alternator Light

    Hi All
    On my 89 raingie the alternator light stays on all the time it has been like this since i bought the car it has had a 4.6L engine fitted to it. It Charges OK just that the light stays on all the time would love to be able to fix it.

    You might find that you'll have a different alternator fitted, one that doesnt need a externaly loaded feed for the excitation of the field winding and the light has been hooked up to either the secondary out put or in parallel with the excitation lead.


    If the light is hooked up to the excitation field and its not needed Im not 100% sure that you will be getting full charge out of the unit, have someone wind the engine rpms up to about 1200 with every accessory you own plugged in and turned on (unless you happen to have a load bank then use that instead) then check the voltages.

    anything less than about 13.5v would make me ask questions. same same if its over 14.2ish..

    From the leccy guru's nominal charging voltage range for a battery is 12.8v to 14.4 and preffered is around 13.5.
