    TIming Case- 94 disco V8/90 RR V8

I'm changing engines (3.9 RR to 3.9 disco). Prob is (well apart from getting the engine out- see other thread about bellhousing bolts!) is that the replacement engine is from a 94 disco- and appears to have a serpentine pulley on the crankshaft and a different timing case to the 90RR.

    1. should i change them over? (timing cases?)
    2. anything I should watch for?

Acutally I should ask, is it simply a bolt on/off deal? (and would it be better to use the serpentine system?

Leave all the front on the Disco motor , if you have the steering pump, air con compressor and alternator. The later timing case means that it will have the later oil pump which is better.
But its all backwards compatable if you need to use the Rangie stuff. You will need a spacer for the crank, which is obtainable from Graeme Cooper and others.

i would go with the serpentine belt as compared to the rangie that has a million belts to do the same job

that = 1 spare belt to carry around compared to the many standard rangie belts

plus a serpentine belt is a lot easier and quicker to change on the side of a hill than the multitude of standard rangie belts

The downside being that if you have a single component failure (ie power steering pump) you can sometimes get a way with removing one belt and still have the water pump working to get you home. Bit hard to do with a serpentine belt.

i take it that means to keep the disco serpentine belt- I need to get disco Power steering pump, alternator, aircon and brackets? (engine came complete with inlet manfiold, and wiring, injectors, etc but only a fan and crankshaft pulley)

In that case use all the rangie accessories otherwise you will spend a small fortune to get the serp belt gear.
