Long Ranger Fuel Tank
Hi ye all.
Had ARB fit a 120l LongRanger Tank, though with frustration on my part. Leaks from more than one place. So she is back in now having them chase the issues.
Definitely a leak coming from the sender unit. Looks like they might have bent the brass possibly fitting the tank with the sender unit in, and getting it caught againt the chassis.
Anyway their problem. I provided them the Jerry Cans of fuel to fill it to the hilt, along with pumping over my 50l auxillary. However, they didn't load it up and test.
I have been happy with the pricing, as I have a rep who I negotiate well with, so from the sales side - I am happy. However twice on fitting equipment, I have been mucked about.
It is fair to say though, that they do attend to it 2nd or 3rd time around.
Regarding the Tank, the Filler does not fit. They had to custom make.
The Old Pickup via the Sender is not used any more, and it is blanked off. Which is interesting, because the downpipe could act like a syphon via the hose and blank if it was not tightly sealed.
Has anyone else had experience with the Long Ranger Tank with a 110 County 3.9D.
Cheers,

Don't know about the county but my 2000 defender has had problems when fitting the tank.
Basically they fit all the pipes and whatever to the top of the tank with it half dropped out then push the tank up into position to fix it all in position.
And here's the deal... fingers are crossed that everything is still secure.
Last time saw me driving along with diesel p1ssing out all over the road
Good luck with ARB BTW.... mine was fitted by LR experts and they had problems

to arb and alike your rig is just another customer in and out as quick as they can
my mate has brought all the accessaries for his 100 series and fitted himself, i don't think he could fit another piece of kit on it, when he brought his arb air lockers he took his centres to a diff specialist to fit up

I've got a 156 litre Long Ranger in my '97 Defender, it has a conjoined sub tank in the RHS quater panel. The pick up is at the bottom, easy access, but well protected. The sender pick up has been blanked off. I haven't had any problems with it. When I bought the car the fuel gauge read for the top half of the tank, so adjusted that, it doesn't move off Full till about 800km, but them seems to have a pretty linear reading to empty. Before adjusting the float I rang the company to ask about where the pick up was, whether they initially provided a modified sender unit and where the internal baffles were, so that I wouldn't hit them by adjusting the float. Even though it was an older tank, the guy on the phone was able to give me a good technical description of the tank and its internals.
As far as ARB stuffing up the fit, well that's a common story - and not just for fuel tanks.

I had a long ranger tank in my rangie. Later extended by the manufacturer to gain more capacity with 2" body lift.
The old brass pick-up tube was crimped and soldered to seal it.
The existing fuel sender worked as reasonable as could be expected, given the shape of the new tank.
I had no problems with leaks etc.

re: Long Ranger and ARB air Locker
Regarding earlier threads.
I am going to follow up on doing the same, buying an ARB Air Locker for the Salisbury Diff, and have it fitted by a Diff Specialist, preferbally in Adelaide.
And I like the idea of welding up the old pickup pipe via the sender unit. It would be unlikely requiring it, although when I innitially had the leak, I used this to drain the tank down, below sender unit level, and it made it easier.
Anyway Thanks guys. Good ideas, both of them.
Cheers.

Hi Michael2. could the 1/4 panel tank be fitted on to the standard Def 110 wagon tank?
Thanks

No, it's conjoined to the main tank. and stradles the chassis rail. Mine has a shielded hose that runs from the bottom of the 1/4panel subtank section to the main tank, but a mate with a '92 Defender Ute has a tank that sits a bit lower, so the 1/4panel bit has the same base as the main tank. I don't know who made his one, but it only holds 130 litres.

I've got a longranger in mine, it holds about 150 ltrs main and sub
the sub is sitting next to the main joined at the ankle9must be a typical fitting)
It came with the car. and i have the same with the sender, about 600km then the gauge moves to 3/4 of a tank.
The only noticable thing I found was , if filling from empty, go flat out for the first 80 litres then slow down, the sub tank doesn't like getting a full flow, then i finish off trickle filling no foaming.
Other than that, the tank is sound and strong a good choice.

My set up is two tanks. 127 litres in the main tank and 32 in the side tank. They are set up as one tank but you could seperate them if you wanted.
