    D2 Electrical Problems

My 2001 D2 purchased last week has challenged me a couple of electrical problems. Before I go back to the dealer, I would appreciate any other words of wisdom as is available only on this forum.

Yesterday I had the Sport Mode Indication lit on the dash & at the same time the Manual Mode Indication. Both lights were flashing as was the gear position indicator in the dash & the indicator next to the gear selector. The handbook says in this situation one needs to seek professional advice from a stealer. The vehicle appeared to be stuck in a gear higher than 1st. A couple of key on/off cycles, selecting H/L range afew times & pressing the mode button cured the problem & all returned to normal.

My fuel flap also has a habit of opening on it's own even if the tank is full. I thought maybe it was trying to tell me something. Maybe it has F1 roots?

The climate control changes the airflow within the cabin between dash vents & footwell vents at random & at the same time turns off the cooling. To get back to normal, it is necessary to down the temperature settings.

I am wondering if all these faults are as a result of a loose earth or something. All suggestions gratefully accepted.

With regards to the climate control - the way you have explained it is the normal operation of the system when set in auto. If you don't want it to react this way turn the system to manual, you can then choose your own fan speed and in which direction the air flows,...........but when the temp is reached it will still turn off the cooling.

Fuel cap - sounds like a loose connection or a faulty switch.

The others - sorry no idea at this stage

Limp home mode. If you turn off the vehicle and leave it for 10-20minutes then try and start again it should have powered down enough to try and clear the fault. Both lights should flash on startup and the extinguish. If they don't or if they startup again you need someone like a dealer with the software to diagnose the fault.

My Disco does this on very rough tracks with lots of corrugations, otherwise I suspect its a fault, make sure the filler cap retaining strap is out of the way when closing the door.

As already said sounds like normal operation. If you have it set at say 24C and the outside air is <26C you will find it will most likely either try and turn the heater on or just not cool the air. Bit strange at first but you soon appreciate it. I find it will also redirect to the foot well and demist if it is heating the air.

If there is a fault with the climate control ECU then the "Auto" window on the LCD should flash 3 times on startup.

Thanks guys, being a different vehicle to what I am used to, I may be seeing things as faults when in truth they are operating properly. I will be exploring the lazy latch fix too.

If you want to check your AC there is a diagnostics routine you can follow.

With the fuel flap, its very easy to accidently hit the button when opening the coin drawer(or ashtray if you have them the other way around).
Done it plenty of times myself.
