    Rear Electrical Plug Wiring

    Hi All,

I am currently fitting dual datteries to my S2 Disco with a Redarc SBI12 solonoid.

Setting it up with a relay for winching but I would like to wire my rear power plug to the auxillary battery for running the fridge. Can any one advise where this plug joins the power circuit so I can rewire it to the new battery.

Would I be bettter just running wires straight through and disconnecting it all togeather?

I still would need to disconnect the originals from the power source wouldn't I?

    regards
    Piddler

I put in a second plug. In my case I used the Hella Marine connector in my Disco 1 and then in the Disco 2 I put in the Engel plug. Much better to have a screw in connection so that it can't fall out. Also you still retain the aux socket for a work-light etc.

Either way you can access the wiring by removing the plastic top where the rear seat belt retracts. I then ran heavy duty wiring back to the engine bay and direct to the aux battery.

Similar to DM TD5, I fitted an extra/additional socket in the back, but I used the conventional 'cigarette' socket - but will be changing it as - it does occasionally fall out.

I mounted mine on the little air intake grille just by the rear door, my theory was that when / if I sell the car I can remove the socket and just replace the small grille at little cost to get it back to 'original'

I'll grab a photo and post it

Depending on the currents you are planning on using cigarette and din plugs and sockets are limited to a maximum of 16 amps.

This will suite fridges and additional lighting.

Although not yet available in a panel mount version, Anderson PowerPoles are an inline connector system that will not rattle loose and that is MUCH smaller and cheaper than cigarette and din plugs and sockets and handle 30 amps. This makes them ideal for use with inverters and compressors.

This is where I put my 'extra' socket - that will be changed

    Hi Piddler.

I have the same Redarc Unit, along with a winch albeit in a 110.

I did not use the aux wire for the winch relay, instead I kitted it up to a button for Jump starting of the Auxillary if required. (what the aux wire was originally intended for).

I then kitted a manual 2 way switch connected to both batteries. This remains isolated with the key out, however, If i am winching, then I turn of the isolater, and the batteries work in league. This poses no problem for the redarc isolater. I checked with them as they are just around the corner from me.

I am not sure about your rear power plug, being a disco, however, I would recommend fitting an Anderson style plug as per an earlier thread.

    Good Luck.
