Strange indicator fault - flasher unit?

Indicators on my 110 county (isuzu) work fine on rhs, but on lhs the small indicator in the side of the guard stays on constantly, and the f&r indicators don't light up (bulbs are OK). This is also accompanied by a high-pitched continuous buzzing sound coming from the fuse box or near there. I have opened the fuse box but no found anything obvious.

So where is the flasher unit??? AFAIK it is a 3-pin, so should work the same regardless of which side of the car???

I had to replace the flasher in my county a little while ago, didnt have the same symptoms as yours it just wouldnt fash unless i hit the fuse box. The flasher is located in the fuse box but under the metal plate all the fuses are mounted to. The exact replacement unit was very expensive about $80 but I put in a cheaper one, the original has extra circuits for trailer lights and other stuff I cant remember or would ever need.

Check the wiring on the LHS front & rear indicators. Maybe the little flasher in the guard doesn't draw enough power to activate the flasher can properly. You may have a broken feed or loose earth wires to the LHS front & rear indicators.

I had a similar problem on my SIII which has LED indicators all around, except for the bullbar. When the wire to the bullbar broke, all the LED indicators combined couldn't draw enough amps to power the flasher can. I needed the power from the bullbar indicator to activate it. The problem was easily fixed by repairing the broken wire.

I smashed my trailer plug on a rock the other day (unintentionally). When i hooked the remains up on the rear crossmember. I found that that my indicators, both sides, came on with the head lights. The plug part was intack but bracket broken so the wires couldn't short. When i look i found dirt packed in really tight around the pins. When cleaned the problem when away.

So check your wiring. In particular look for damage to the wires. And also wiring that doesn't look original. Previous owners seem to do the strangest things with wires.

Thanks guys - seems to be the flasher unit at fault...

Finally sorted it - turned out it wasn't the flasher unit, somehow the front and back bulbs were BOTH not contacting at the same time...

Now on to the remaining jobs...
