have you considered a DIY after market cruise control
i don't own a td5 so cannot help with the spring setup
Hi all
I have a 11-01 TD5 130 Defender 130 and lately have been driving it to Bourke and back 1300km return, mostly 110km/hr speed zone. It is mostly half loaded and driven at least 110 or more. Consequently the trottle has to be down a long way and as many of you will know it gets harder the further you push it in. After 6-7 hours driving in a knees up position my right knee just about kills me. Can the spring be lightened off or replaced with a lighter one? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I don't look forward to my next trip, my knee is always sore now.
Thanks Scott

Thanks I have but don't know much about them, the cost I think may be prohibitive. Can you recommend a brand or type. Do you know what it would cost. The missus may have something to say about it seeing as she doesn't have it on her car!!!!!!!!!!Poverty pack.
Cheers Scott
the throttle on the Td5 is fly by wire not a cable set up like old cars so you could not alter the spring rate on a td5 i guess
so the only thing you could do is fit a after market cruise control these are readily available from repco , supercrap , autobarn , autopro![]()
you could do some surfing on the net for info![]()
It would still have to have some kind of spring for resistance but being electronic you may wreck it by trying to adjust it.Originally Posted by rangieman

The throttle is a complete unit the bolts to the firewall, it has a U shaped metal carrier with a pin shaft that the pedal pivits off and a spring on both sides. The electronic reciever/sender unit is on the side of this unit. I am not sure how it recieves as I haven't pulled it out yet but may do. I don't really need cruise just a lighter pressure to make it more comfortable, and I don't want to spend a fortune either. Mostly the truck goes around the farm and in and out of town which is hilly. But at present I am doing big trips. Even commuting to town is hard on the knee as it hilly and you have to give it full throttle some of the time.
Thanks Scott
Cruise control that would be suitable about $250 - $300 from Kmart etc and about 3 hours to fit - you will wonder why you didn't do it years ago.
Other systems up to $1000 fitted but for a cable throttle arrangement not really worth it - but the way to go for 'fly by wire' throttke systems.

Whilst I would totally agree that if you did fit cruise control you would ask yourself why didn't I do this ages ago.
...............however I have looked at the Parts Catalogue for the TD5 Defender and the spring arrangement looks very basic, and it could be that you could release the spring by one turn, or if that's too light you could just find a lighter spring and replace.
See attached from the parts catalogue

Hi Scott
I dont think you can mess with the factory setup.
The only other alternative to cruise control, which works really well on the TD5, is fit a seperate pedal that is more comfortable to press onto the original.Shouldnt be too hard to nut out.Mine is a Disco TD5 and dont have the same problem, works good for me.
