    Question Need HELP with 2.25 Diesel Series III

    Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between a Petrol and Diesel 3 Bearing crankshaft i.e. is the Diesel crank forged or cast?, can the petrol Crank be used in the diesel block strength-wise? Does anyone have a Diesel Crank or Petrol Crank for sale or know where I can get one, Thanks in Advance, Regards Frank.

    Diesel crank is forged, and theoretically cannot be reground (but many do without problems - just pay attention to radiusing or the sides of the journal).

    I know of 1 person who fitted a petrol crank to a diesel without problems. Whereabouts are you? I have a spare diesel crank... (in Brisbane).

    diesel is forged, shouldnt be reground...

    that said, mines on its first regrind.

    providing your not going to make it lug you can use the petrol crank in a diesel but I wouldnt want to be using a reground one.. I know a few people (me dad, uncle and neighbour to the uncle) who have put diesel cranks in the petrol engines..

    Interestingly, the new listing for the diesel cranks show that they can be reground twice... So sayeth the machine shop I had my crank reground at. It was pay th big $$$ for the new crank or the little $$$ for the regrind...

    its only an engine im prototyping with so it was an easy choice.

    So far Its got 20 loaded hours on a dyno and nothing untoward in the oil filter.
