    Plastic welding

Just came back from a holiday in Europe and met a guy who is welding plastic sheets together to build water- and fuel tanks. The pricing would be a lot cheaper than the steel tanks and the weight would be next to nothing.

Does anybody know if I could find somebody doing this kind of stuff around Sydney.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

This is a common industrial process. Try Yellow pages. Or try smash repair shops for a name. Modern plastic & cardboard motor cars have lots of plastic bits that are repaired by welding.

its a bit like oxy welding, except you use a hair dryer on steroids with a little outlet to create the heat. you can get a wide variety of filler rods to suit the different plastics etc etc..

ITs exactly like oxy welding, you can even use a propane torch.

ITs even available for DIY if you keen, The guys in ACW have just started getting intros to it as part of their course. And I believe tho cant confirm some of the major welding suppliers are starting to get the gear in.

You can even use a 60w soldering iron to do the job but its not as neat.
