    2000 D2 TD5 Auto Problems

    Hi All,

I remember a thread some time ago about a problem with the auto in the D2, but I can't find it. The first sign of the problem was that, when cold, it would take a while to engage the gear/supply drive. Then, as the problem progressed, it would take longer for the torque converter to lock up, or it would just keep slipping. Mine is starting to show those simptoms.

Can somebody point me in the right direction of the post? (or give me some hints on the problem).

Also, is there someone/somewhere in Brisbane recomoneded (or not recomended) to get the disco serviced? (not MR, Ricks or the one on the Bruce Hwy, I am looking for someone reliable closer to the CBD). And how much should I expect to pay for a 100,000km service (ignoring the auto and the fact it is using water and leaking PS fluid)?

    Thanks

The First thing I would be doing is checking the Transmission fluid level. When was the last time the transmission was serviced?

Not since I have had it. It had just had its 80k service (at 78k) when I bought it (at 82k), so not sure if it would have been done then, and now it has done 97k, and I am planning to get the 100k service done before we go away for chrissy, so I hope they do it as part of the service.

a with all things auto, when you take it in for service

new oil, new filters and if possable have them pull the pan and take a sample of whats in the bottom.

If it doesnt fix it your infront on 2 points, 1. you have fresh oil to contaminate so you can identify the fault and 2. you'll know that it wasnt the oil or filter causing the problem.

Thanks for that, now all I need is somewhere reliable to service it in Brisbane.

My memory of the earlier thread was that it ended out being a much bigger problem. Over time, the original poster had the oil changed, changed this and changed that, and it never fixed the problem, until eventially someone told him to change XYZ and it fixed the problem. I will keep searching.
