    Oil in the harness :(

Bugger. I took the ecu out today (bit of a dry run for posting it off for an upgrade) and noticed the a LOT of very black oil through the bottom 'red' plug of the ecu. Anyway, i put the ecu on the ground with the plugs facing down and hooked into the wiring harness with a can of degreaser. After using an entire can and still having oil come out of the harness i looked on the ground and not only does it look like i've dropped a litre of oil out of the car there was a worrying pool of oil that had dribble out of the ecu i'd left on the ground....
Mine's a '04 td5 disco under warranty, and i know it's a fairly common problem, but hadn't they fixed it for later models? It hasn't caused any problems with running (yet), but i'm pretty keen to get a fix asap. Has anyone had the problem on the same model and got any help from a dealer? I can't post off an ecu full of oil now can i?

From what I understand I don't think they had solved this on later models, as yours is under warranty I would get it back to them ASAP and get them to 'try' and sort it.

I have been tinkering with an idea to try and solve this - but it's in it's early stages - and quite primitive.

...................but it may just work !!!!

Mine's 10/02 builld date with the revised harness with over 100k and doesn't have any oil in the plug at the head (yet), so maybe the fix is a bit hit and miss.

The allegedly new updated harness is no better than the original and will wear around the o rings eventually. I am going to make it a habbit to inspect regularly for signs of oil and clean the injector harness every 50,000kms regardless and replace the o rings.

Mine's only got 55,000kms on it, it must've been leaking since new judging by the amount of oil that came out of it. It's booked into the dealer on monday, hopefully they can do something about it...

How do you clean them. That sounds like a BIG job.

The think that worries me is we do low K's, so I fear that problems like this won't surface in our car until the warranty is long gone

It was 1 in May and it only has 20k on it at the moment. Hopefully next year we'll put at least 10 on it

This is KNOW DESIGN FAULT. Land Rover should fix them all free of charge whether under warranty or not.

If the new ones still have the problem, then it would appear they don't know how to fix them.

I wonder if the new engine in the 07 will bring the only fix they have.

It is when the o rings in the harnes connector wear allowing oil to travel into the wiring harness as the stupid connector is designed upside down with the female plugs on the bottom allowing the oil to pool in the connector cup and slowly seep into the wiring core.
