    All is NOT good!

Checked my oil this morning, has crept an inch up the dipstick and smells of diesel.

And it's still making the "whistling" noise. Not really a whistle, hard to describe, sort of an "eeek" under load, a bit like radio interference. Exhaust manifold has been ruled out. I thought it might be a leak from one of the (recently fitted) intercooler pipes but haven't been able to track it down. Now I'm wondering if it is related to the fuel getting into the sump, a sticking injector perhaps?

If it's not the injector that is letting fuel into the sump then next most likely cause is a cracked head.

Anyone know a source of cheap Td5 heads?

Can't help on the diesel, but re the eeek noise

Its not just a slipping belt is it? Mine's slipping atm, and at worst sounds like a tree full of cicadas auditioning. Comes & goes though, not sure why.

There is no way a cracked head could be letting that much diesel into the sump. Must be a leak from some part of the fuel system.

Sorry to hear by the way...

Quite often the injector seals can leak. Maybe the injector that was recently removed (was it just the one ?) is leaking around the base.

I hope so. It's going back to Rovertech tomorrow and that's the first thing they will check.

The noise may be a slipping belt I suppose, I'll get them to check that too. The belt hasn't been replaced since new so it's probably about time.

They should be able to run the engine with the cam cover off & see where it's leaking.......hopefully.

An inch on the dipstick in a few days is quite a leak so it should be pretty obvious.
We normally tell customers to come back in 1000km to re-measure the level when they have a problem.

Doesn't the fuel line run in the head & block? I had a small diesel leak where the return line comes out of the block.

Maybe something has gone, like a rubber O ring.

how many ks a day are you doin, a dribbly injector can do it quite easily...

if fuel is leaking into the combustion chamber on intake it will coat the walls, then as the piston comes up on compression it will leak past the rings untill the pressure rise is enough to seat the rings.

check to see if your getting smoke you didnt usually, if you are and your idle is funky do a warm up temp check on the exhaust manifold at idle, the cyl that heats up fastest is more than likely the one thats dribbling.

Remember 1/10th of a drop of oil leaking past the rings per stroke will have you burning over a liter of oil per 100km.
