    Missing widget?

    Greetings all
While rolling around under the disco today searching for mysterious power steering fluid leak and a rather noticeable oil leak i discovered a missing bit. I cant take a photo just yet but underneath the engine just in front of the sump at the base of the timing cover (300tdi) i discovered a threaded hole full of lovely shinny thread. It looks like something has unscrewed itself. Any thoughts?

    Hi,

was under my disco the other day and noticed also mine has nothing there but thought it was a drain hole of some sort and didn't worry much more about it.

Isn't this where you fit wading plugs if you are going into deep water ??

Not sure, the reason i was worried is because the rest of the engine is covered in oil and transmision fluid. Thats the only bit thats shiny and clean.

It is for wading, there's also one at the bell housing. Should be used if going in to water that would reach them but dont leave them in forever!

Do the plugs screw into another area untill needed ? I know on my old rangie's they are located close to the hole they are fitted to- bellhousing.

i am beginning to suspect my 1993 range rover is a fake as it doesn't leak any fluids like everyone Land Rover's appear to do in this forum.

Don't worry, my 88 doesn't either. And I have checked that there is oil in there to leak out! It just doesn't...yet.

And even my Isuzu that has 450,000 on the clock doesen't leak anywhere. The LT95 did leak into the parkbrake last week, but not now.
I also have remarkably few leaks considering the use it gets.(When it's actually going...)
