I actually prefer the county system - you do lose the vents, but you don't have an air con system you are bashing your knees on (or that freezes your knees and not much else...).

Actually my County has a custom installation - done by a country bloke who was set up to install aircon in tractors, headers etc. It occupies most of the cubby box, and is quite effective - I deliberately got a County without aircon. Don't lose the vents and no effect on knee room.

[quote=isuzurover]Thanks guys - great help. Deejay - where exactly is this flap? I have found the flap which switches between fresh and recirculated air, but where is the one you mention? The heater valve is a bit of a silly design for Australia, when it is not supplied with vacuum it is open, and only closes when supplied with vacuum. Is this valve the same?

The lever on the dash that you physically slide for hot or cold opens this flap. I never looked which did what, but the fresh air passes thru one one of the matrix's, probably the aircon one.
    Hope that makes sense.
I've chucked out the vacuum stuff and the next project is to buy a cheap central locking kit and use those actuators. What a job!!!

Deejay - all the vacuum tubing and switches was one of the few things which worked on the county until I put it in storage for a couple of years while OS. Looks like some mice got into the engine bay and liked the taste of the vacuum tubing...

    ........
No ducting - its recirculating - takes air from behind the seats. The cubby box is only about two inches deep except for a section big enough to stand a street directory at the back. The lid is made from a Series under seat toolbox lid, fitted with a pad I made myself from various scraps.

Not as good as a fresh air system, but you can open the vents a bit, plus, of course, the heater fresh air is usually on. Has a pair of pipes plus wires going underneath the floor to under the bonnet, compressor and all the other bits more or less as usual..
