Those CTM unis are for the axels, not the drive shafts.

They run a uni instead of a CV joint.

Has anyone heard of the heavy duty Rover diff fitted to some LR 90s? I'm not sure how common they were, as I came across it in a Manual. Looks like they would have been quite tough with their 4 pinion design. Maybe that would be a cheaper way to go...as it should bolt straight into a Rover housing.

gday adam ive herd of these but have never seen one another member has told me about them and that the army use them but chances of getin one would be preaty slim tho ..
would be nice to give one a go they look well built better than the single pinion std rover jobbies and yes id use them insted of sals if they were available

You sure that is the 4-pin rover diff? I am pretty sure that pic is of a salisbury.

The 4-pin rover diff solves the problem of diff centre strength, but retains the weak spiral bevel ring and pinion.

This diff (or a variant on it) is fitted to the rear of discos and 110s from about 2002, as well as the front of military 110s and 6x6s.

Yep, It sure is. I double checked, as I have not heard of them untill I read about it in the manual. It is in a chapter called:

"Rear Differential - Ninety Heavy Duty"

So Jac Mac makes a varient of these? What are they worth?

    I'd love one (or 2)

Here are the two side by side...they are quite similar, but the differences are apparant on close inspection. (Salisbury Left, Rover Heavy Duty right)

Fair enough. That pic makes the rover and sals centres seem about the same size - there is a BIG difference.

Also, the ring gear is drawn incorrectly, the bolt holes are on a flange that is a smaller diameter than the teeth:

Jacmac and Maxi-Drive both make their own variant of the HD diff - and both are significantly stronger than the stock rover item. The MD version used to sell for about $1100 for diff centre and 2x 24spl HYTUFF axles. AFAIK the OZ army uses genuine centres, not macnamara ones.
