Don't think they come off - but also I read somewhere that air guns shouldn't be used on the nuts with caps "as they damage them"
Can anybody tell me whether the alloy caps on each of the wheel nuts on Defender "Boost" alloy wheels are meant to separate from the nuts themselves, or is only the locking nut cap removable?
All the regular nut caps feel quite loose but I can't get them off which makes me think they aren't actually meant to come off. I had a tyre mob butcher them all pretty badly with their air-socket gun and before I rip into them I just want to be sure they weren't meant to remove the caps.

you can get them off, dont bothertho, the pretty cap makes the nut 27mm. Its only the special one that should come off.
rattle guns make short work of em they hammer the already thin metal into paper thickness which then shreds. especially if the operator is lazy and uses a 12point hex socket instead of a six point.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
As noted above, the chrome covers only come off the locking wheel nuts. The other nut covers do not come off and are not available as an individual part. If someone else has damaged them, make sure they pay for new ones - big $$.
I have owned my 1999 Discovery 2 Td5 a few months now and being a retired motor mechanic have stripped and replaced a few leaky gaskets and what have you . The car has Alloy wheels with the capped wheel nuts and lo and behold in the LR tool bag I found a special plastic tool to assist removal of the lock nut caps only this one had the teeth missing. The local Landie Mechanic got one in for me $6 I recon thats not bad . Wonder if Yotas give service like that ? Cheers George

Is this some kind of record? A thread from December 2006 resurrected in April 2008. Wow, it's like some sort of time capsule.
Anyhoo - it's kind of good to have a reminder of this since I now have a bunch of brand new alloy wheel nut caps to take care of. If anyone goes near them with a rattle-gun... watch out.
