Mine has a louder "diesel rattle" at idle since having its head gasket and oil in the harness, waiting to get it read on a Rovacomm to find out if all is well.
Not running the best it has, wants to stall on take-off,poor performance, engine fans running constantly.

Have you been doing any work under the bonnet? I had a similar problem where i'd dropped a 12mm socket bit, the vibrations at idle were enough for it to rattle around where it had came to rest....![]()
a friends holden was doing this, it turned out to be the anti knock sensor...
it may be just something that simple in the TD5. (but given the number of faults in the TD5 type treads that have come up recently I doubt it)

Hi,
Yeah ive had a closer listen and its definitly comming from the front of the engine, it speeds up with engine revs and sometimes you can hear it and sometimes you cant![]()
Harmonic balancers can give a nasty rattle (and a nasty wallet dent, $660 for the part).
Check that the crankshaft pulley bolt isn't loose. That happened on my Tdi Disco and it chewed the end off the crankshaft.![]()
You might need to isolate the ancilliaries by removing the serpentine belt. If the noise stops, it's one of them at fault.
If it doesn't stop, then it's internal.
Would a loose oil pump bolt rattle prior to falling out ?![]()

Or the harmonic balancer (speaking from experience).Originally Posted by Scouse
