    Dune Flag Pole ?

Im heading off to Beachport at the end of Jan.

I went last year with the club and made a pole out of condut...it works but Im not happy with it because I need to insert it into the pole holder on the bar then bend it back and tie it to the roof bars, just looks a bit stupid.

I would rather have a 2 or 3 piece pole then i could store in our campers pole tube, but i had a go at making my own but it was very weak at the join....any ideas or what do you use?

I know I could just go out and buy a name brand pole but I like to make my own stuff if possible....plus Im a tight ****

    Hi Andrew,
Go to your local fishing supplies shop & buy a Squid pole. It falls into itself & goes from anything from 3-8metres in length. It normally has a small ring at the end to clip a flag onto as well.
    (refer photos on D2au.com-Simpson/Robe)
Cost around 16-25dollars & stores neatly into itself.
Worked brilliantly across the Simpson & at Robe this year.

er... cut a piece of conduit in half and turn the half with the "joiner" in it around and push em together when you want use em!

that way it can be 6m long if you really want it and 3 metres long for transport

As already said or get a cheap surf rod paint it white and attach a pair of red knickers to the top.

A squid pole for $24.95. I removed top 3 sections, and it is still higher than any market flag holders.

... can take some pics tomorrow how it attached to the bar if you want.

    Cheers,
    Ruslan

For our Simpson Desert trip, I just asked around and got a couple of old fishing rods someone didn't want for free. You should be able to get a very cheap fishing rod at Cash Convertors, K-Mart or a garage sale. Someone else I knew spent $80 for a sand flag - I'd rather put the $80 toward diesel.

Squid pole is the way to go. Have used it on Simpson and Robe trips. They are cheap and fold away neatly. As Someone said, remove at least the top section as it is a bit flimsy at the top but you will still have a magnificent pole.
On our Simpson trip many people commented on the length of our poles.
