    Defender Windscreens Options?

Is there a choice if replacing a defender windscreen?

Ie i believe a Disco has a tripple laminated window ie 3 bits of glass stuck together. Defenders have only 2 laminates of glass as standard. Can you get a tripple for a defender?

or are some suppliers better than others?

Can you get tinted or metalised?, sun strip at top etc?

I was told a tripple would be better for noise among other things!

    Thanks

I severely doubt that an extra layer will quieten a defender

You can get all kinds of sound deadening glass. Just how much do you want to spend!

But like Tombraider says I severely doubt that an extra layer will quieten a defender

Are you thinking of "Triplex" brand maybe?......it's a reference only to the three layers.....1 of glass, then a plastic layer, then a 3rd layer of glass.....I'm not aware of any "3 layers of glass " type of ordinary windscreen.

You can get an all over light tint with a dark band at the top.......ring around the various suppliers, there's also heaps of "come to you" services.......mostly you'll find there's only a couple of manufacturers, but a WIDE variation in supplied and fitted prices.

Since the Defender windscreen is flat, you can get one made from any flat glass - see any glass supplier that supplies glass for things like tractor cabs etc. But there are legal restrictions on what can be fitted, probably limited to whatever the manufacturer fitted or had as an option. Since shipping glass round the country is very expensive, particularly if you want to insure it, anything that is not local can get very costly.

There is a heated windscreen option in Europe, which would be handy here in winter too...............

Does it REALLY get that cold there? Those things are designed for melting heavy deposits of ice!

well, it snows here every second year or so, so a bit colder than where you are but not as cold as Orange....
The first year we moved here (5 years ago) it was -6 to -7 every morning in the stables for nearly three months straight.

I run a windscreen shop in queensland
The person you spoke to about the screen is just trying to baffle you bullsh@t the screen for the fender & disco is not tripple glass it is just thicker outer layer than normal screen. The best quilty glas ive found is buy national windscreens (I've used them all) as for getting one cut can be done but make sure it has the aus standards logo (usully cheaper to buy one readymade)as for heated you would have to go genuine and have youre car wired to suite(bank loan required for genuine)
    cheers

The best windscreen you can get is the free one supplied by most insurers each year.
