Are you going to make them to suit the non electronic tdi motor![]()
cause i could just be tempted![]()
After seeing a few things on the net, I descided to throw my old man a task (he plays well with eletricalthingiemagigs) so this is what is we have started with...
He is designing and build me a thing, lets call it "doodaa Mark 1"
All information will be displayed on a 16x2 backlit display (dimming with lights being turned on) with 2-3 control buttons. It will be designed to sit at the base / or around the cubby box on a Defender.
I am really keen to get a 1 box solution for most of the controllers / sensors that we as 4wders need / can use.
It will be, and be able to do,
- Full electronic Turbo timer
--- Using Auto sensing Turbo heat, adjusting timing period on the time driven and heat
--- Bypass button
--- Adjustable cool down period
- Turbo Monitor & Temp alarm (Able to Set / High Low Setting)
- Engine Monitor & Temp alarm (Able to Set / High Low Setting)
- Battery Voltage Levels (x2 Batteries) .. and alarms
Other things we are talking about but not definate yet
- Fridge Temp
- Duel Battery controler <--- Doubt it but very possible
I am still looking for more ideas ?? what else would you like to know about / control ?
And no we can not monitor, oil in the harness, oil pump bolt settings, head warping or fuel pump status (LOL!)
Once these are finished, and if there is some interest, we will be looking to produce some for sale to AULRO ...
But I am really interested in other ideas that we can put into this product!

if you need any help with any mechanical design... give me a shout.. its my job.. particularly handy if you need any drawings doing for manufacture....
Sounds good to me too.. is the turbo temp monitor a egt monitor? or an equivalent? (stupid question from a still newb..)
one for a disco too?
Thanks
Steve
This will work on any 4wd, its not plugging into the ECU or anything, its using sensors that you will have to attach.
So yeah, defender, Disco, Sierra or Hummer![]()
stick a coolant level monitor in there too...
and supply/source for appropriate sensors for the non-electronic engines (TDI/4BD1 and older) you should be onto a winner![]()
That is an excellent idea.
I looked at the Thermoguard EGT gauge a few months ago, but it didn't have an alarm feature (so if you're not watching the numbers you never know it's in dangerous territory). Nice unit though.
If it had:
- EGT readout + user settable alarm
- Engine temp readout + user settable alarm
- Low coolant level LED and alarm
- Twin battery voltage monitor
you'd be onto a winner.
I wouldn't personally be interested in the turbo timer, but I'm sure others might me. (They're illegal in SA anyway). Is the turbo monitor the same as an EGT monitor?
Hope it gets off the ground.
Cheers
David
sounds great
*EGT
*coolant level
& make the Turbo timer work with the engine kill on the alarm
eg:
key to off (engine runs on timer)
out and lock (blip blip)
turbo timer runs out and then the Engine cut out starts to work ...... to foil would be thieves.
Oh ........ and a hot chick alarm ..... I usually miss them when Annettes not there to point them out![]()
What about a turbo pressure readout? PSI or Bar.
This is going to end up being quite a big DooDaa MkI
There will be NO alarm integration on it, as I do not have one .. but I am sure it can be wired into an alarm.
The Turbo timer will have a bypass so even if its illegal in SA (as in I think all states) if you get pulled over and need to shut down the engine, you just press the button and it will die.. (been there done that)
The heat / monitors will use its own sensors, so it will work on all cars, its not defender / lr pacific.
Coolent alarm would be a bitch and I think there is others doing a good job at that... so we went with engine temp warning using the block temp..
Tacho
Oh and maybe...
Clock (everything's got a clock nowdays!)
Cabin temp (so SWMBO doesn't complain to much)
