county 4bd1 4 speed difficulty changing into 4th gear

I have started having trouble changing into 4th gear.
It does not grind like a bad sincro, double clutching makes no difference.
When changing into 4th from 3rd, it just jams half way.
You then wait a second pull back on the stick again and it goes in.
I was told to adjust the end of the reverse gear selector toward the center a bit, to stop the end of the gear stick catching on it, this did not seem to help.
    Any suggestions.

Immediate question that springs to mind is - what oil (if any) is in it?

Is 3rd particularly noisy and 4th not at all? If so, maybe the bearing inside the end of the input shaft has disintegrated.
