    Injector cleaner additives

Does anyone use injector cleaner additives? I have a S2 Diesel Disco & although there isn't any dramas as such I wondered whether it would be a good idea. Could this possibly help re. fuel economy as well? Thanks for the advice

Bit of a story here, so please bear with me.
    Part 1
My '76 s111 2.25 diesel got the stage of spitting oil out the exhaust. Idling rough but not much smoke and no blowby to speak of. A mate suggested valve stem seals, took the rocker cover off to check but of course you cant tell without taking the valve springs out. Made a clamp attachment to depress and remove the springs (at tdc) and sure enough the exhaust seals had broken right up and the inlets (a different seal) not much better. Set of new seals, reasembled ok but not impressed by the black sludge around the place so thinking "what the hell" put a full container of that spray can degreaser ($2 at the cheapo store) into the sump. Ran it for a week then drained the oil. The crap that came out amazed me. Re filled with new oil and 3000km later it is still looking ok, nearly see the dipstick through it. Better still, no oil blowing out of the exhaust.
    Part 2
I mentioned the old girl idled pretty rough, so using the same theory about the oil flush I put another can full of degreaser into the fuel tank. Within a week the idle was smooth, less diesel smoke when cold, started easier cold, 12 months (and 3000k) later she still has that new lease of life.
    Part 3
So this worked on my old landy, am I imagining it? Not so. But if you try the idea and dont like the result please dont blame me. I just feel that a lot of those clean up products are merely aggressive solvents with enough advertising blurb to justify the high asking price. My total cost was $4 plus an oil refill (which was due anyway)

I'm using this stuff whenever I remember:

Early data suggests better fuel economy ................... when I don't forget to tip it into the tank

I used to get better starting and economy using John Deere fuel conditioner. A small can, quite cheap, treated a large quantity of fuel.

Can i just point out, dont do this to EFI petrol motors, although it would probably be okay..... o2 sensors are somewhat fragile to doing such things

I would have thought de greaseser into an engine would have been a very bad thing. What with cylinders liking lubrication and such.
