Chip for TD5 and squeak I cant workout

I'm looking at chipping my TD5 defender. Need some input from those of you who have done it, positives and negatives, what type, cost, who did it, where etc etc.

Also, I have a small squeak (a bit like a dodgy bearing) when the motor is cold. Doesnt take long and its gone when she warms a little. I know its not a belt slipping. Anybody know what it might be so I can attend to it before something goes bang!!!!

    1. I had my 2003 D2 ecu done recently by Tombraider - very good result and no adverse effects.

    2. Chirping could be a leaking exhaust manifold, usually with a broken stud or 2 it seems.

Dunno about the chipping - but Tombraider seems to have it sorted - and from what I have heard it does the business

......but the noise, more and more I have heard of this and it generally seems to be a leaky exhaust manifold

    chip for TD5

    Got a TD5 130.
Put in a Davis chip in February this year.
Installed by Land Rover Spares in Mackay 49575854.
Had to send my computer to Sydney for the re-programme and I was there for a week.
Goes really great, did a Hay River, Simpson Desert trip in June and chip upgrade worked really well on the sand dunes.
    Cost about $1,000.
Chip upgrade is not a plug in.
Chip boosts power from 90kW to 130kW.
    A different vehicle to drive.
    Definitely recommend the chip upgrade.

I noticed if I forget and shut the engine off with A/C switch in "ON" position a squeak comes up next morning. Just for 2-3 seconds, only in hot weather. Had it from new on Cape York trip several times (~3000kms on clock) and last weekend too (37000kms). So, A/C pump can go bang probably...

    Cheers,
    Ruslan.

I get this one too, probably 'cause I hardly ever use the A/C system....

Tombraider ECU upgrade is cheaper than that.

2004 Defender should be a flash upgrade and therefor cheaper - you'll love it and wonder why it was not delivered that way.

sweet, my reasearch suggests that either the Davis or Cooper auto upgrade (which is adjustments to the ECU, not an add on) is the way to go so far. Quest, where do I look for info on the Tombraider upgrade mentioned so far?? Never heard of it.

the $1000 mark is roughly what i've been quoted so far for the others.

also::: oil in the wiring harness from the ecu to the injectors. mine has it so need to replace the harness. any suggestions on how to stop in happening again. I had thought a simple loop (like in a diff breather tube) would create a pocket to stop the progress back from the engine to the ecu but not sure if the harness will allow enough give to do that.
