2.4 litre petrol 4 cyl. original landrover motor completley rebuilt.

    Mark,
This listing is on behalf of a mate of mine who is not on the internet (no computer). I know that the engine is in very good condition after being rebuilt by one of the best mechanics around here, and runs like a sewing machine, however there is some clutch slip when the car gets warm despite the fact that the clutch was replaced when the engine was done(approx 20,000km ago). The brakes need new wheel cylinder rubbers, but apart from that only a mechanic (and I'm not one),could answer your question properly. The vehicle was registered up until April this year.

    Regards,
    Barry

Get them to send you more pix of behind the front wheels and the underneath. Also, is it a rust hole on the transmission tunnel in the pic?

Does look like a beach machine.

    Good luck.

    Cheers
    Simon.

its been used as a beach wagon, look at the pic and you can spot some rust on the bull bar right near the front where it bolts onto the chassis, where the spring hanger for the front springs hang out....

I'll bet 10:1 that there is rust in the front spring hangers and there will be rust in all the other usual chassis parts... not hard to fix but annoying and if its been used on the beach then Ill add at 5:1 that the internal supports of the bulkhead are rusting from the inside out and theres no way to check for that untill the rust holes appear.. theres minimal rust cause its already had the easy repairs done to it.

with the wing mirrors on it like it is Id also suggest its been used for towing probably only a boat onto and off of beaches, but enough to make me warey of the rear diff axles and propshafts.

why is the RHR quater panel discolored?

by the look of the front hubs its probabley also got freewheeling hubs in it how long since they were last engaged?

engine rebuilt by best mechanic around, Funny I dont remember working on that vehicle but seriously best by what standard, Best=cheapest? best=most thourough didnt skimp on anything right down to tap cleaning the sump nuts? Best=bloke who knows every little thing about landrovers? Best=mate who helped me knock it over during a couple of smokos over a carton?

If he had the best mechanic looking at it why havent they diagnosed the warm slipping clutch. it can only be 4 things in that type of vehicle

    1. worn friction plate
    2. failing pressure plate application springs/plate excessively worn
    3. throwout bearing sticking
    4. wrong slave cylnder/rod/not assembled correctly.

aparently they already replaced the clutch and I would assume the throw out bearing..so assuming that they used the master/slave cylnder that came with it... (and you dont need to take them out or apart to get the engine off for rebuild)

so Im thinking that since master/slave cylnder failure is pretty much out cause it wouldnt work when cold either and since its only doing it warm the only things left are 1+2 which leads me to belive that someones telling porkies.

why does it look like its coming with a complete set of diffs, did the other owner change them for a different ratio, or is he like me and carries spares cause he knows his driving style can be a bit detrimental to them?

and $2000 wont get you a really good rebuild on the 2.25 unless the motor was already in good nick I went $1500 on kermits diesel and I'll admit that It was a half assed job just to get the really important stuff back in spec so that the engine might last through the prototyping process (I want it roadworthy and moving under its own power untill i get it roadworthy) and all I did to it was a valve job, crank grind and replace all the bottom end bearings and seals... no cam work, rocker work, pumps, valve stemps, head mill, hell I even used the old pistons, rings and gudgeons without even looking at measuring them (althoughprior to work starting they came up within spec on a compression test).

why is it being sold? How much is it being sold for? Why does it come with oversized brakes as spares?

Based on only the info youve given me sight unseen $750, $1000 tops
    registered(6 months)$1500

given the oportunity to have a good look at it and scope the whole thing out (take about 4 hours to do a decent job), I might go as high as $2500(registerd 9 months) but not likely.

If my mothers sewing machine ran as smoothly as the best rover engine Ive ever seen, she'd use it to churn butter. (she works with seamstresses for fun in her spare time. Why? I have no idea)

    Gday Mark...

My brothers S3 is on ebay. It's a good honest old thing. Bad pics but, it has never been a beach truck, maybe once a year he would go to Moreton. He use to use it to get to work as a painter. If I didnt buy the missus my aunties Daewoo espero I would have taken it off his hands. He has owned it for about 20 years or so and looked after it well. It's a deisel and comes with a ute and hardtop and he bought new tyres for it about 3 years ago.Anyway, if any one wants more details let me know and I can pass on the details or number.

Ok i got a response to the beach driving question, hmmmm is it a big porky what do you think

The vehicle has obviously done some beach work but the owner is a keen river fisherman and since I have known him(about eight years) I don't think the landy has been on the beach, but mainly used to tow his tinney down to the river boat ramp about 1k from his house.

porkies, by way of the paint abrasion, on the front of the strip under the door. the obviously patched door frame, the discolouration of the pedals and the rust on the bolts holding what looks like the ally floor mat retaining strip.

river fishermen (that I know) tend not to use bar mounted rod holders due to the proximity of trees near rivers.

Im also encouraged to not believe him due to the fact that all of the shots were taken in splotchy shade making obvious panel/paint damage hard to spot although he may not have done that deliberately.
