Exclamation What's a GOOD Fuel Injector Cleaner for Petrol?

In my 93 Disco 1 3.9i automatic bought last Dec with 190,000 klms I've run through 2 bottles of Nulon TFSC [Total Fuel System Cleaner] and 4 bottles of Valvoline Injector Cleaner in about 10,000 klms.....I wanted to get it all nice and clean as I had no real previous service history with the car....

When I finally pulled out to clean the Constant Idle Speed Stepper Motor Valve it was still PUTRID!- about 1/4-1/3" of crud on it!.... funilly though the throttle butterfly and surrounds were spotless!

Question is what do you guys favour as a good EFI pour-in-tank cleaner......I've always used Nulon TFSC in my other cars, but am a bit dissappointed about its failure to clean this idle speed valve - a well known chronic cause of problems in EFI LR's.....or did it really clean it up - it being much worse prior to the treatments.....it wasn't idling too badly, just a bit too slow and stalling only occasionely when manoevouring/blipping throttle.

Does fuel actually flow through that valve? No amount of cleaner will clean it if no fuel flows through it.

No amount of fuel treatment will touch the stepper motor

You have a 3.9i - Injection - the fuel is injected into the cylinders , at the same time the air is drawn in.

The only thing that goes past the stepper is air.

It is an "Idle Air Control" valve. No fuel as such, just air.

Remove it & clean it up with Throttle Body cleaner.

Deposits could come from a crappy/dirty filter on the driver's side front of the rocker cover. Has a hose going to the the throttle body area.

Also check your air cleaner, it may be overdue for replacement.

Air intake, passing the air filter, you ought to check the quality of the filter - and also check to see if there are leaks in the air feed that is by-passing the filter

I put in a new air filter as soon as I got the car - it was absolutely filty - probably partially blocked with dirt........

.....I was wondering if the PCV system air/gases/fumes would pass through the idle valve......the pcv filters were both filthy and blocked - replaced both of them at same time as air filter ....2nd day I had the car........I've seen some [U.S or U.K. parts supply place's adverts which have "Complete Tune Up" kits for various model LR's and for the various V8's they supply all new hoses [as well as both filters] for the PCV system.......mmmmmm, maybe I should look inside the hoses too, coz the wire mesh filter and its holder had baked on crud.....I had to soak the holder/adapter in diesel and scraped 1/4" of crud off it!

I'm pretty certain [98.9%...lol] there aren't any leaks by passing the air filter anywhere past it though.

Hhmmm, sounds like it had a history of crapiness & that up to now you haven't cleaned the IAC but have done the other pertinent bits.

Do that now & hopefully you'll be right.
