touch base with Ladas, he was working on something I understand the concept but you'll need to be handy with the soldering iron from what I remember
I know this has probably been done b4 but I ant find where.
I have oil in the wiring harness from the ecu to the injectors on my 1999 TD5 fender, so need to replace the harness. any suggestions on how to stop in happening again. I had thought a simple loop (like in a diff breather tube) would create a pocket to stop the progress back from the engine to the ecu (even though its lower than the engine) but not sure if the harness will allow enough give to do that.
ideas???![]()

Hi All
Its been suggested to me that you use sensor safe silicon on the rear of the plug in the head to stop the oil pooling on the plug. I am about to do mine when the parts finally get here.

Hi Doug
I did this all thru the injector harness sealing the thing up totally.Thought I was a clever cookie, left it for alot more than 24hrs to cure, posted pics of my lovely work.
IT DONT WORK!!!!!!!
The suspect is synthetic engine oil.
The sillycum was eaten, disolved and spread all around the engine nicely.Normal oil dont do it,must be the synthetic oil.

Hi All
Thanks for that Andrew I will look at other ways of doing it. Parts still have not arrived.

Doug
I also sealed up the plugs that plug into the injectors pulled them apart to do it as I think this is another way for the oil to get in,since I have done this I get no more fault codes involving the injectors.

I was told that it was fixed in the later models (ie) D2a, and when replacing the wiring harness you ask for the later harness.

Ah the old oil in the harness.....![]()
Unfortunately LR decided to use hollow pinson the Injector to Main engine harness connector. This is important because the oil is actually wicking up the internal conductors of the wiring. No amount of sealant will stop this.
As it has been pointed out in may forums the oil travels along the wire from the injectors to the ECU where is fills the ECU connector and then pumps back along every wire in the ECU plug.
First response is to replace the Injector harness, this has apparently been fixed by LR (still hollow pins though). After that the only thing left is to replace the main engine harness. This is a nasty job but can be done if you are mechanically minded and a contortionist.
Since doing this on my car I have not had any more strange warning lights and fail to starts.
The harnesses are not cheap but worth it.

Hi All
The new harnesses arrived today after looking at the harness I cannot see another way of sealing them than to use silicon checked the permatex site and i think I will give the permatex ultra blue a try I also thought of making a shield to go over the back of the main plug. Redback mine is an early D2a

Hi Doug
Thats the one I used, the synthetic engine oil ate it.I would be looking into an oilproof 2 part epoxy if anything.
From a chat I had with Blk.nightaus today perhaps cutting the 2 ends off and fitting a computer plug setup with solid pins will help. The only problem this greates is the round hole in the head the exsisting plug sits in will need sealing.
