I'm am getting my Disco I set-up for access to mine sites so that I can use my own car on a regular basis instead of having to borrow company vehicles (most of the time I get stuck with a light Isuzu tip truck and is rather uncomfortable when empty as it is bounces all over the place).
I have to fit an amber rotating beacon and my initial thought was getting one with a magnetic base so that it can be easily removed when not needed.
However, would this work on a Discovery with an aluminium body which in theory should not be magnetic?
Any other solutions? I'd rather not put a full roof bar on. Maybe a bracket that can be attached to the edge of the roof.
Advice would be appreciated.

We use some big orange rotating lights on our trucks at work. Available in 12v or 24v. They are magnetic but have a suction looking base to protect the paintwork.
I think you'll find a Disco roof is steel so you will have no problems. They wouldn't rust to buggery around the alpine windows if they were all aluminium
Won't you need a roof bar at the back anyway for the roof mounted tail lights?
The roof, bonnet and floor pan are steel so a magnetic light should work OK

Thanks for the replies.
I have seen a normal one bolted onto a large block of rubber with a soft sponge pad underneath, holes were drilled through the rubber near the top then a pair of ocky straps were threaded through..
to put it on it was attached to the trough on the passanger side then pulled over to the drivers side and same same there.
seemed to work well enough..

The roof on a D1 is steel - well it is on mine....

The bonnet on a D1 is aluminium, and mine is polished back to the bare metal, looks amazing!

......My bonnet paint is shot [engine heat I think] and I've been toying with the idea of fixing aluminium treadplate to the "high" formed part of bonnet and then affixing a second spare wheel and tyre [a la Series] to it......that'd look so cool I reckon!Originally Posted by Quiggers
Also with that I'd want to fit gas lifts to the bonnet......I HATE!! that stick arrangement!

Under the ADRs that the vehicle was made under... Bonnet mounted spares are illegal. Sorry...Originally Posted by byron
