I have a spare transmission cover. The black pvc ones are standard from about 1986, changed slightly in the defenders. Mine is from an army 110 I believe. however is not any different to my prev 1986 civy 110.
I have purchased a seatbox from a Perentie to replace the one in my 4 speed County (lots of holes cut in it by a previous owner).
However, its different in the area where the rear gearbox cover bolts to it because the Perentie seat box has a horizxontal mounting flange while the County box doesnt have much of a flange at all and the rear gearbox cover has a vertical flange which screws to the seatbox (hopefully the photos below are clear enough)
I dont want to butcher the seatbox or my existing gearbox cover as this was what I was trying to solve by replacing the seatbox in the first place.
Is there a rear gearbox cover from another model which would fit and join up to the center gearbox cover with the gearlever boot in it? In short, how do I make the Perentie seatbox fit my gearbox covers?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi rar110
My transmission covers are in 3 pieces as per the photo- do you think your spare piece would fit between the Perentie seatbox and my center transmission cover? Did the 5 speed boxes come out in 1986? - mine is a 4 speed, am wondering if the gear lever is in a different position with the 5 speeds which would make the center cover different as well......and the Perenties were 4 speeds........ Anyway, if you've got a cover which will solve my problem I'd be keen to do a deal........
Why would the 1985 County's have had a different seatbox to the Perentie's in the first place?
Yes, I'm confused!
Mark,
the pvc gearbox cover fits between the piece on the left (the firewall flange) and the seat box flange.
The 5 speed county is from 1986. They relocated the high/low changer from the seat base to the gearbox tunnel, sth west of the gear stick. The army 110 (and mine) 4 speed also placed the high/low changer in the same place as the later models ie sth west of gear changer. They probably did this to make it compatable with later models. However, the profile of the flange on the seat base of some later models was different. I used a seat base from a 300tdi and couldn't use the gear box tunnel I am offering you. The firewall flange was identical.
The pvc gearbox cover gear stick boot is for both the gear stick and high/low changer. You could change the high/low changer - up to you. I believe rover took special orders for post 1986 4 speed isuzu's, don't know if they used the army high/low set up or old set up.
Where are you - probably best you look at mine and decide what you want to do.

Your original seatbox does'nt look too chronic. A trick is to put a larger piece behind the hole then a piece the same as the hole. You could always cover it up with automotive carpet.
Just a thought![]()
I'm in Gympie - would a photo of your cover be too much to ask?
What would be involved in changing the linkages - replacing from a later model? or would they be Perentie specific due to post 1986 civvy 110's dropping the LT95?
You can probably buy the parts from landrover to set it up like a perentie. It is a better set up in my opinion only because pulling a lever is not great as nob eventually falls off. Leaving it unchanged is the easiest option. However the gear lever boot will have an extra place for the high/low lever. A bit unsightly but apart from that not a problem. You cant use the existing boot.
I have taken some photos. However, it looks much like any 300tdi defender. do I have your email add when we were talking about the trailer?
You could probably use the earlier cover set up. Just need to muck around with cuting off the existing flange and reducing the size of the arch.
peter.

Yes, I guess its not too bad, however I was hoping to use this new box as its a lot better than my old one. I may end up going back to it if I cant solve this gearbox cover issue.Originally Posted by DeeJay
