Loss of Power in Series 3

Some of you may recall I was having some power issues with my stage 1 when the engine was under load - particularly up hill - took it to the mechanic and they thought it might have been the carbys and a problem with the fuel supply, because once you took the foot off the gas the power would actually kick back in.

But now they reckon it might need a new cam shaft ($700) as they now think it might be a problem with the valves - is this common in the V8?

This problem [too soft a metal for the camshaft and also bending rockers - also too soft] is one of the reknown weak points of the standard Rover V8.....especially 3.5's.....the later/larger displacement engines were better in this respect.....but 4.0 and 4.6 's had some problems of their own in factory standard build.

For that kind of money, you may as well get an EFI V8, either 3.5 or 3.9 and do a straight swap. The 3.5 EFI in my Classic RR has been flawless (430,000km).
