There is a kit to fit vented rotors that includes spacers for the calipers.
Posted this question on OL as well.
Have a late '94 Disco and it doesn't like stopping. Has solid disc rotors and the steel tube master cylinder with two outlets. This all runs to a distributor on the passenger side chassis rail. Car's fitted with 33's.
Two questions:
What's it take to install vented discs to a car that has solids?
What upgrades are possible? Master cylinders, Defender calipers, etc?

MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
Where's that from?
I know that Graham Coopers in Sydney sell and can also fit the "vented disc" upgrade kit......new ventilated discs, genuine LR spacers for the calipers and all the new seals and bolts to suit.......was pretty cheap too!Originally Posted by up2nogood

If you can find some defender calipers with the larger diameter pistons, they will make the most improvement.
Hi
I'll wash my mouth out later but on my falcon I swapped the solid disc rotors for some slotted DBA ones and some nice soft pads, it really stops the wagon well.
The rotors look like these :

look at the solid ones, not the vented ones.
Might be worth trying before you swap calipers?
When my RRC needs new discs I will certainly be getting another set of these.
Actually theres usually minimal difference in pricing between solid or vented discs - DBA's or LR's, but vented are definetly superior when in marginal situations [e.g. oversized tires]....you keep your calipers but use a genuine LR spacer kit [it's exactly what the factory did!] which is only about $100 .......so you might as well get the most effective for very little more.Originally Posted by downundersteve

Steel braid brake hoses instead of rubber are supposed to help.
That's right.....as the rubber ages it "expands" under brake line pressure........Land Rover actually specify TOTAL replacement of ALL hoses every 36,000 - 40,000 klms or 4 years - when you replace all the seals in calipers and master cylinder.Originally Posted by Utemad

check out the latest edition of 4x4 Australia, theres an article on doing it to a Patrol fitting RDA ventilated rotors, about $600 for the full set.
