    Load rating Thomas T86 winch

    Just wondered if anyone out there had any idea what line pull the T86 thomas winch was rated for? Am trying to size some new winch rope for it.
    10000lb? 8600lb perhaps?

    Are Thomas winches still made?

    Hi Dan

    My Thomas pto winch is 8000lb and I thought they all were, but am not 100% sure. Mine does not have a model number on it, just says 8000lb on the side. Thomas are now made by powauto which has an office in Brissy, I had a little to do with them when fitting my winch and did not find them very helpful. All parts are still available as the new ones look very very similar to the old ones. Yours being off a series three is probably older than mine so not sure. Are you getting wire or rope? I guess 10000lb would be the safer option if you are not sure.

    Thanks for that. I was able to get a phone number for them through PWauto. Called them up and they were quite helpfull seeing as all i was after was the load rating. The winch is an 8000lb job. Have heard of them makeing 10 000lb ones as well.

    I am still undecided about where to get wire or rope for the winch. Rope is nicer to use but more expensive. Rope is possibly tougher and is cheaper.
