E-windows go down but not up
Drivers electric window in my 89 RR will not go up. It goes down no problem and at the moment is about half way dow.
Passenger window works fine, but rear ones don't work either down or up.
It has been playing up since I've had the car (about five years ago). Would always go up rather slowly and would prefer a bit of a gentle lift to help it go up.
Not sure where to start looking. Any ideas?

Driver's window -Sound like something has come adrift with the mechanicals inside the door- you won't really know what until you take the inside door trim off and have a look.
Pushing the window up puts a lot more strain on the linkages etc than letting it down.
As foi the rear ones, are you sure there is not a child interlock ? Don;t know about Rangies but on the Disco there is an interlock button you need to push to allow the rear windows to work.

As Wayne suggested, look at the child lock (or the wiring to it) for the rear windows.
As for the front, I found that in my '88 RR the scissor lift had damaged teeth in the first instance. It cost me about $40 to replace with a good 2nd hand unit. I've kept it clean & lubricated, but I find that from time to time the motor jams. I have to remove the door trim and unbolt the electric motor, as soon as the motor is unbolted it works fine
I just bolt it up again and it works for another 6-8 months. - always on the driver's door (most used) I suppose I should really replace the motor - but I haven't yet.

Generally if it's a mechanical problem you will still hear the motor winding away, but just not doing the job.
So try the switch and listen carefully to the door panel - if you hear the motor then the problem is mechanical,
However if you don't then generally you may have an electrical problem.
Check the contacts in the switches, check the relays (if fitted) you can also hear those click into action when the switch is used.
I had a problem on the D2 the window would go down, and it would choose if it wanted to go up or not. Took all the switches out - cleaned all the terminals, used tweezers (don't tell the wife - they were for her eyebrows) and pinched all the connections so they were real tight. Put it all back hasn't missed a beat since.

Thanks for the input so far. Regarding the rear windows not working, this is from the panel in the front which operates independent of the child safety so this is not the issue.
The relays are clicking, and the fact that it goes down most likely means that the problem is not electrical. I'll have to pull the door trim off to have a look me thinks.
