    Water in fuel sensor

I've combed through the threads and there's not much on this water in fuel sensor.

Reciently I changed the fuel fiilter and my fault I decided to wash the sensor in hot water and degreaser to clean up the dirt buildup. Bad idea.

From that point onwards the water sensor light continued to stay lit for about a month. I looked up some causes on Webrover which suggested to clean with a soft dry cloth and refit etc..... I ended up replacing the sensor.

Much to my suprise the light continued to stay lit. I emptied the trap again bled fuel system and the light turned off for about 10 minutes. Now its back on with a new filter and new sensor less than 24 hours old.

Can the electricial plug be faulting at the connections? Or is this one of the oil in harness problems arising?

The only constant I have is I always fill up at the same servo. Ive run out of ideas as to what could be causing this.

    Cheers Rob

Can't be positive, most of my experience is Marine diesel, mostly same same, bigger sump, oil cooler in sump, heat exchanger rather than radiator. Do you have white smoke at the exhaust, this would indicate water in fuel tank. There was a water finding paste we used in the navy, wiped a little on the tank dipper, turns green to red on water contact, sorry no idea where to obtain it. You may have had a bad gasket when you gave it a tub up(wash). Tip, don't do it again. Remedy, drain tank, remove tank, gently heat tank to evaporate water, and then refit, refill, and observe tip.

    Hope this can help.

best of luck, have a good christmas and new year.

    regards shorty.

Thanks for your input Shorty, it appears that the fault has gone away. I only turned the water dump valve a small amount until the water came out. Before I was turning this valve a lot more letting diesel out. But it works now.
