Good luck with fitting that in a roof consul lol.

A mate of mine had his up there and it was fine, thats where I got the idea to put mine up in the consul.

The only prob I could see with it is if you have sun roofs, you wouldnt be able to use the switch.

Minor problem though, whu actually opens their sunroof anyway.

My floppy hats and maps and the like go in the overhead shelves. It's also a novelty having all these storage bins everywhere so I didn't want to fill them with radios.

If you don't have a sunroof the power for it is still there (it is Acc though) or you can use the constant power for the light if you want that.

Hi everyone. Finally has come time to install my icom in to the over head part of the D1. I'm just wondering if I should run wires all the way to the battery as the Icom manual says or should I just go in to what I think is the sunroof power cable?

I'm worried looking at the cables that they are very cheap and nasty but I have not had a good proper look yet.

Opinions or stories on how you do this would be great.

I do and the sunroof has no complications with the radio.

It is easy enough to run new power wires up to the radio when you run your antenna cable. I had the same thoughts as you when I connected mine up last week. Plus I like to use it without the keys anyway.

X2, only minor prob is when the drink holders r used, it restrics access 2 the unit:(.

I got around that problem , my remote face is in front of the switch panel that operates the electric windows , behind the gear lever , it's easier to access

Avoid dissapointment - run the power wires direct to the battery. We do thousands of two way installs every year (albeit a bit higher power ) it's standard practice in the trade. Gotta be a good reason for it. Fuse in positive line near the battery. Some radios have a seperate ignition sense wire you can use to control on/off via the ignition key if you want to - not sure about yours.
